And I’m back

No riding while in Florida, but…
I have to say I was pretty impressed at the biking possibilities there. I didn’t see too many people riding for sport (okay, I saw exactly one), but there were quite a few kids and commuters. The sidewalks down there, being as they are on very flat, level ground, are great for riding on and many, if not most, of the major streets had bike lanes. The drivers are crazy, though. I’m not sure I’d want to venture out on the main streets much. Most are four and six lanes wide and red lights seem to be just a sort of suggestion.

This was on the mainland, though. It’s much, much harder to do any riding on the beach, which is what I found when I lived there. Since the beach strip really only has one north-south road (A1A), and you have to cross some serious bridges with crazy drivers to get to the mainland, it makes it kind of touch.

But if I can get a carrier, maybe I’ll take my bike with me next time. It would be a good MTB riding place as well. There are paths along all the canals that criss-cross the area.
