They got here this morning, so I went over to Broadway Bike School this afternoon to check the true and swap over the cassette and tires. The wheels were true to less than a mm, so it’s close enough for me. The valve stems on the existing tubes weren’t long enough, so I had to buy a couple new tubes. When I got home, I remembered that I’d brought two new tubes with me that, it turns out, had stems long enough. Oh well. At least I don’t have to buy spares.

The only real mistake I made is that the braking surface on these is much narrower than the old rims, and I didn’t adjust the brake pads before testing the brakes, so I scored the decals on one side of the back rim. Rats, but it’s nothing major.

I haven’t really been able to try them out yet, of course, I’ve only ridden them back from the shop, but I can tell a difference. They’re certainly lighter, at least by a little bit. But mostly notice that they’re much quieter. The rear cassette doesn’t click at all. Nothing. Complete silence.

I was worried that the Sigma Sport magnet for the cyclometer wouldn’t fit on the bladed spokes but it does. It’s just that it will only fit in one direction, so the pickup has to be adjusted, but that’s okay.

Plus, they look just so coool.
