My gripe about OLN
So Lance is retiring. Okay. But this Lance worship on OLN is really starting to grate. What they should be doing, IMO, is talking up the other Americans in the race. Like Dave Zabrieskie, for eg. Not once did they intereview him. A yellow jersey and no interview. Leipheimer. Landis. They did interview Hincapie briefly, but the only question was about Lance.
If they want the excitement of the tour (and cycling in general) to continue into the post-Lance world and to grow the sport’s popularity in the US, they’ve got to give people reason to come back next year. So far, from what OLN is broadcasting, there will be no reason to return after the ceremony on the Champs Elysees.
Don’t get me wrong. Without OLN, the tour wouldn’t be seen at all in the US except for maybe a 20 minute one-time excerpt in some obscure Sunday afternoon sports wrap up show sometime in late September. So for that, bravo. But think also of the future and audience development, k?
