NSC Blazing Saddles

Sunday, August 28th, 2005

Yesterday I did the North Shore Cyclists Blazing Saddles Century. You couldn’t ask for a nicer day. Crystal blue skies, dead calm winds, warm bordering on hot. Perfect.

The Globe and Mail: Say it ain’t so, Lance

An interesting read. I can’t say I agree with all of it, but it is interesting.

Armstrong accuses L’Equipe of “slimy journalism”
I don’t get CNN, but I would have like to see this interview.
Cycling News, as always, has the best coverage.

Mad propz to Bell Helmets

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005

I heard my head hit the pavement in the crash, but the helmet looks to be only cosmetically damaged. However, it’s been drilled into me that helmets are good for only a single use.

The damage (so far)

Much less than it could be. Much, much less.

An accident

Monday, August 22nd, 2005

Went out for a ride this afternoon as it was a nice day. I took the southwest route through Dover and Wellesley and was returning via the Esplanade, when some idiot kid jogger wearing and ipod and not paying any attention to what he was doing ran right off the Mass Ave bridge, across [...]

Hamilton conquers mountain

Sunday, August 21st, 2005

Tyler’s back in the news in a good way by winning the Tin Mountain hill climb. He used to hold the record, before it was shattered by Tom Danielson.

Today’s bike news

Friday, August 19th, 2005

This is good. This trail really is in very rough shape. I just wonder how long it’s really going to take and whether it will be done by next year’s Outrider’s ride.
Repairs will limit use of Cape bike trail
I find it interesting that the police are now pushing this as a good thing when the [...]

Phonak’s Guidi suspended for positive dope test
That’s four Phonaks in one year. Landis should leave now before the team is completely either disbanded or kicked out of the pro tour. They’ve already had one purge, maybe that one didn’t take.

BostonHerald.com: Bicycle program left spinning its wheels

2000

Tuesday, August 16th, 2005

A 20 mile jaunt to Waltham made 2000 miles, exactly so far this year.
I was told the bike path btw Watertown and Waltham was finally finished, so I went to check. It’s not. I think the person that told me was thinking of the path that’s been there forever and is overgrown, badly in places. [...]

Larz Anderson bike show

Monday, August 15th, 2005

YesterdayI went to the bike show at Larz Anderson Park in JP. That’s one big ass hill getting into that place. It was hot. Hot, hot, hot. By the time I got there I was literally dripping in sweat, and stayed that way for the rest of the day (so was most everyone else). It [...]

Why

Thursday, August 11th, 2005

I need to write a paper about why cycling is so important to me. All I need is a week.
Hahahahahahahahahahah.

Physics humor

Thursday, August 11th, 2005

I’m reading Bicycling Science, and it’s quite a good book although a bit thick in places. It’s definitely a text book, but interesting in any case.
A quote from page 153, from a paragraph labeled Energy consumption as a function of distance, in a chapter entitled Power and speed:
We can see from figure 4.12 that [...]

Big dig

Tuesday, August 9th, 2005

This is from a newsletter sent out by the “Boston Bicycle Planning Initiative”, an office in city hall. It’s interesting that one government agency complains about another, but less so when you consider one (bikes) are the city and the other (big dig) is the state. Still, WalkBoston is a formidable organization.
It’s the same old [...]

Ouch

Saturday, August 6th, 2005

Man, oh, man do I have to get the saddle changed on the MTB. The 60 miler today convinced me I will not ride again until I have a different one. Fortunately, I have a different one. But it’s in storage. Guess I have a task for tomorrow.

Huzzah!

Restructure

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2005

I’m thinking of restructuring the site. It’s really hard to integrate non-Word Press pages with Word Press pages, so I’m thinking of maybe making Word Press (the blog stuff) as the central part, and the other pages as “pages” linked off the main Word Press page (if that makes any sense).
Opinions welcome
