Your tax dollars at work
Someone pointed me to NASA Worldwind.
Awesome! I mean, I love maps anyway, but this is really done right. The interface is a little quirky for a layman like myself, and the controls are a little touchy, but it’s really done right.
You can use any of the public domain datasets (LandSAT, USGS Topo, &c) for display; you can rotate and change the perspective to see things in 3-D; create flyovers; there’s a built-in database of landmarks (like Taj Mahal, US Capitol, Mt. St. Helen); US Census data; and on and on.
My productivity is already as low as it can be, now I’m going to spend weeks playing with this.
Download and install it. It’s fun. Afterwards, check out the Kancamagus Pass.
Note: you need a high speed connection for it to be of much use.
