I was supposed to head to a meeting at my client’s today, so I got out the Schwinn behemoth and decided it was time to pump up the tires. The rat bastard Nashbar pump has openings that are just too small. When pulling the pump nozzle off the tire, I ripped out the entire valve [...]

I rewrote the ‘random’ header image thing to pull the images from the Coppermine database (i.e. the gallery), rather than a statically build array. I notice that once in a while, the image gets lost even though it’s quite clearly there in the source. Not sure what that’s about. In any case, this should allow [...]

What would Maxwell Smart say? “Missed it by that much.” Okay, so it was a little more than “that” much. I was shooting for 18 and got 17.34, not even season’s best (but not by much). Oh well. There’s always next year.

I saw Jeanne on the street today and she asked if I was going to do the Rodman ride. (It’s sponsored by her company.) I said I didn’t think so since I had another century scheduled for the next day and it’s one I really like doing. Then she said that the Liberty Seguros team [...]

Goodbye Batteries, Wireless, Batteryless Cycle Safety Lights
It doesn’t look like it would work with quick-release, though. And axle level might be a little low. Still, it’s a good idea.

T to give cyclists a break on buses - The Boston Globe
Could the T at long last be getting a clue? Is it possible? To those who don’t live in Boston, this is stunning news. It’s even more stunning because these are exactly the routes that need it most. If you look at the map, [...]

For some reason, not the least of which is a pretty good sale (as these things go), I bought a slew of DVDs the other day. They arrived today. I now have something to watch while pedaling away on the trainer this winter.

2005 Tour of Flanders

I upgraded Wordpress to the lastest version. It was reasonably painless. It sure would be nice to have a automated process, though.

Janet was nice enough to send me the elevation detail from her GPS. See? It’s far from flat. Lots and lots of little rollers.

Yesterday, I got the inspection report from Bell about the helmet damaged in the accident. It was damaged too badly to be used and will be replaced. “Cracked and compressed” it said. The helmet came today, but I wasn’t home, so the UPS lady left a sticker. I should get it tomorrow.

Yesterday I did “The Flattest Century in the East” put on by the Narragansett Bay Wheelmen. The first thing I can say about it is that it’s not flat.

I was out riding to Acton yesterday and the first (and last) part of the ride is along part of the Minuteman Bikeway (this trip used the part between Cambridge and Lexington Center). There were no less than three people out selling lemonade and soda for hurricane relief. One kid was especially clever. [...]

Took a ride to Acton-Boxborough High School to see how long it would take. It’s the starting point for the CRW ride in a couple of weeks, and the zipcar rentals are getting expensive (and probably will become moreso with gas at $3.50/gal), especially when this one seems close enough to ride to.
It takes [...]
