Grand Prix of Gloucester

Monday, October 31st, 2005

Sunday I went to the Grand Prix of Gloucester cyclocross race. I took the train to West Gloucester and rode to the race, at Stage Fort Park, which was only about three or four miles. Very windy early on, but it died down midday.

2005 Michelob ULTRA Gran Prix of Gloucester | 29 & 30 October 2005
Assuming, of course, there’s not another nor’easter. Sunday looks like the better day.
I’ve ridden through there. It’s a nice place. It’s going to be awfully muddy!

Hmpf. I got this letter from Peachtree today. I’m not a huge fan of their software, but it gets the job done and there really aren’t very many alternatives. The company is in at least its third incarnation since I got my first version, (an autonomous company, part of “Best Software” and now part of [...]

Route map

Friday, October 21st, 2005

I put a route map and cue sheet on the routes page. I haven’t yet found a pleasing layout format, but I am wondering about the profile and cue sheet formats. Right now, the profile is a Flashpaper SWF, and the cue sheet is a PDF. I can’t decide which is better.
Both formats [...]

Concall

Friday, October 21st, 2005

I called into the TdC organizing “concall” (gads I hate that word, it’s right up there with “revisit” and “task” as a verb). I totally forgot about it and didn’t call in until it was almost over, but I hung around a bit after everyone else hung up to get the low down on what [...]

The Harris Report

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

SFX: cue teletype
I went to Harris Cyclery yesterday to see what they had for fixed gear bikes. Not a lot. Four, actually. But that’s nearly twice as many as anywhere else. None of them fit me, although one came close. They had a 49cm Bianchi Pista (too small); a 53 cm Fuji track bike (too [...]

I need stronger thumbs

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

I was going to go to Harris Cyclery in W. Newton yesterday to check out what they have for fixie/ss bikes, but as I was pumping up the tires (after more than 2 weeks off the bike) and the front tire was completely flat. So I pumped it up and had lunch. And it [...]

IRO v. Paké

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

Went over to Cambridge Bikes yesterday as the IRO website lists them as a dealer and I wanted to check one out in person. They seem a nice enough bunch, but they didn’t have any IROs. Everyone seems to be out since their recent death in the family. But he said he talked with them [...]

TdC 2006

Sunday, October 16th, 2005

Whoa, they seem to have their act together a bit more than last year. Registration for the 2006 Tour de Cure is open! The thing is, I still don’t have the the thank-you letter sent out for last year. The longer I wait, the hard it gets to do. *sigh* I suppose I just need [...]

Yet more Topo

Saturday, October 15th, 2005

Okay, I think I have most of this sussed.
TopoUSA has “draw layers” on which you can draw new roads, trails, and whatnot. The drawback to this is that it appears you cannot route the same trip on different kinds of layers. This will make it impossible to create a multi-modal trip in a single [...]

DeLorme Topo

Friday, October 14th, 2005

I’m finding this DeLorme TopoUSA thing a bit hard to use. Or at least it is for bikes. There doesn’t seem to be a way of defining a route in a specific, detailed way, or at least the way I want to do it. It’s always redrawing the thing in the “most efficient” way. [...]

More new toys

Thursday, October 13th, 2005

REI sent an e-mail to tell me the YAP* I bought was in and ready for pickup. I’ve fallen into a quest to find a decent, functioning floor pump. This is my third effort.

$250

Wednesday, October 12th, 2005

Apparently, I raised enough money in the last Tour de Cure to be awarded with a $250 gift certificate to Lands’ End. This is unexpected, and I don’t quite know what to do with it. I’m mostly an Eddie Bauer Outlet kind of guy, and I don’t see that Lands’ End sells any sort of [...]

Silver

Tuesday, October 11th, 2005

I was bored out of my mind yesterday and had to get out of the house, so I took a trip up to Davis Square. Figured I might as well check a couple of shops for fixies, although I didn’t really expect to find much.
I didn’t.
But I stopped in ATA and saw one of the [...]

Sunday, October 9th, 2005

This is the first weekend in about a month and a half that I haven’t been out on my bike.
I’m bored to tears.
Weah.

Airport codes

Thursday, October 6th, 2005

Added the airport codes links to the ride log so you can now go back and check the weather for any particular day. It links to a Weather Underground page for that airport for that day. It took all of about five lines of code. Plenty enough to top off with a beer.

Tire

Thursday, October 6th, 2005

New rear tire at odo mile 5374
Added a new “maintenance” category. But I think it might be better to keep it out of here and create a separate maintenance log to keep track of mileage, repairs and costs. Hmm..
WordPress does have “custom fields” that could be used to keep track of this, though. I [...]
