Concall

I called into the TdC organizing “concall” (gads I hate that word, it’s right up there with “revisit” and “task” as a verb). I totally forgot about it and didn’t call in until it was almost over, but I hung around a bit after everyone else hung up to get the low down on what was discussed.

Just touching base, apparently.

They’re thinking about shortening it up a bit. I don’t like that idea, but I realize I may be in the minority on this one. Some have the opinion that it should have about 50 miles lopped off. (It’s 550 miles over seven days now.) I suppose that might not be a bad thing if there were something to do in the mean time. I did hear someone last year say that it would be nice to have an entire day off in the middle to head to a swimming hole or do some hiking in the mountains. I could totally go for that. But where could they they carve off 50 miles? Days 1 and 2 are sacrosanct, being the TdC 150. Otherwise, the longest day is day 3 and I don’t see any way to shorten without a sort of make work wander in the wilderness route. The whole draw is to ride the Kanc or Crawford Notch (depending on the year). I suppose Day 2 could be rerouted to end up farther inland thereby shortening Day 3, but I’m not sure how that would work, and it would cut out the seaside route which is one of the big draws (not to mention that it’s flat flat flat) and anything heading into the interior of Maine starts going up pretty quickly.

Anyway, I brought up the subject about it being so hard to get information about the ride. Information other than that it exists and is a fundraiser simply doesn’t exist. Where does it go? How many people are on it? What are the accomodations? What do people have to say about it? Photos? First person accounts? &c &c. So I’ll be meeting with her on Nov 8 to discuss webifying the thing. I reserved the domains last year, so I’m hoping to be able to make use of it. It could be fun. It could also be a lot of work and many of the organizers tend to be alpha types which could prove frustrating. We’ll see how it goes.
