Murderball

Murderball tournament this weekend! Unfortunately, the weather looks like it will prevent my attendance. I could either go Saturday in a driving rainstorm, or Sunday when it’s 100 degrees colder. Hmpf. I wonder if there’s a bus that goes there. … It doesn’t look like it. Stoughton and Brockton aren’t even on the T’s list of cities.

Stoughton train

Wait a minute! The train doesn’t even go the Stoughton branch on the weekends! That sucks. I guess the tournament is out even if the weather was okay.

NY Jets 1 vs. NY Jets 2? What the hell is that? A split squad scrimmage match, or two separate teams, neither one willing to give up the name?

I don’t see any ticket info there, do you know any more details?

I’m not sure, but my guess is that since they’re from NY, they have too many people for one team, but they’re all in the same club. Maybe it’s separated by age or something. Kids and Geezers or Good and Not-so-good, maybe.

I don’t have any more details. The guy responds pretty quickly to e-mail but it’s short notice, so I don’t know. I can’t imagine it would be very expense. In fact, I’d be surprised if it cost anything at all. Maybe a passed hat or something. It’s at the VA Hospital gym. This is what his e-mail said:

It’s planning been shaky at best but the Brockton Brawl will be happening in one form or another on January 14th/15th. Here’s the scoop. Finances have been a big issue as we planned this. We just don’t have the funds to make this a big event. With that said, here is how it’s going to go down. We have the gym in Brockton on January 14th & 15th. We have $person and possibly a new ref from Pittsburgh coming up but I am going to ask for 1-2 players from each team to volunteer to help ref. This is not ideal I know but I think the goal for us in this region is just to get out and have some fun so I don’t want lack of referees to be the end of our tournament. There are plenty of us that know the sport well enough to ref. And doing so might give you a little more respect for those Zebra boys next time they make a call you disagree with.
