Duck Soup
Rufus T. Firefly (Groucho Marx) takes over as head of Freedonia. Hilarity ensues. Mostly. I find this to be weaker than either /Day at the Races/ or /Night at the Opera/. Songs have no real purpose, and the jokes are there as jokes only and not to advance the story in any way. Don’t get me wrong, some of the skits and gags are timeless classics (particularly the Harpo in the mirror thing), but they don’t do much for the story. Unlike, say, the racing form bit between Groucho and Chico in /Day at the Races/. Margaret Dumont is the best ever, but why is Zeppo even in this movie?
Rating: B; would watch again.
