Giro contest

There’s another competition taking place in the Giro, this one back at the team support cars. It’s among the domestiques, the support riders known as “water carriers” whose job it is to deliver all-important drinks to their teammates.
According to the Italian newspaper, La Gazzetta dello Sport, Quick-Step’s Jose Antonio Garrido recently set a new record by carrying 16 water bottles simultaneously from his team car: one in his mouth, two in the cages on the bike, two in his pockets, six under the front of his jersey, and five under the back. That’s more than five liters of water.
In Tuesday’s stage, Fabio Sacchi (Milram) beat Garrido’s record by toting 18 bottles. No problem, said Garrido: “I’ve already done a test, and think I can manage 20 bottles.”
There’s more than just bragging rights at stake, notes cyclingnews.com. At the end of the Giro on Sunday, Italian cycling legend Francesco Moser will present a prize to the rider who manages to carry the most: a bottle of wine for each bottle of water. “It will be a kind of miracle,” Moser said. “Water will be turned into wine!”

That’s awesome! I love it whenever the domestiques get a little much-deserved attention. When you think about it, it’s pretty impressive too. 16 bidons=>5 liters of water — 5l=5kg (how can you not like the metric system?!)

I can carry that much easy. But it’s all in my stomach.
