Six Days of the Condor by James Grady
Finished Six Days of the Condor [MBLN] yesterday (they lost three days in the movie). Meh. Had the potential to be a lot more than it was. In trying to make the thing mysterious he just made it confusing. A man described only as “distinguished” was subsequently referred to as “the distinguished man”. L4m3. I mean, at least make it something cool like “the cigarette smoking man” or something.
The novel is also pretty dated. Things like carrying pistols into airports, and complaining about the outrageous price of $20 for a hooker, and being able to con a bureaucrat out of personal information on someone else. Ain’t happening today.
The movie didn’t diverge too much from the book, at least up until the end. The film had something to do with Middle East oil and the book dealt with Southeast Asian drug trade. The film ending was also a bit ambiguous whereas the book wrapped everything up nice and neat.
It’s an okay book to pass the day, but not a ripping page turner.
