Magnificent 7: Multi-seat bikes are hot wheels
Magnificent 7: Multi-seat bikes are hot wheels
But city officials are concerned about them - as well as pedicabs that have been operating for a few years now - maneuvering through traffic.
Hey Donna, say it with me: They’re not “maneuvering through traffic,” they ARE traffic.
Clearly Donna has never seen a pedicab in action. They’re too big to “maneuver through” anything and don’t do any more “maneuvering” than a horse carriage.

I’m sorry Todd, but these things look phenomenally retarded.

Yeah, they do, but I bet they’re fun in a Tilt-a-Whirl sort of way. Then again, I don’t know seven people, so I’ll probably never find out.
I meant the Pedicabs that the author is all concerned about maneuvering through traffic. Maybe she’s thinking of couriers, because Pedicabs are 200 pounds apiece, without passengers. They’re also as wide as a Cooper Mini. They don’t do much maneuvering beyond straight ahead.

Yeah, but Tilt-a-Whirls are fun because they tilt and whirl. All that thing does is go 10mph down the street while your friends block your view of the next turn.
As for the pedicabs, I’m sure I’d like them far more than I like their website.
Cyclists, no matter how many wheels they have, are always going to get the short end of the stick when it comes to city officials. Mostly because the bad ones are HORRID and really stick out, making things tough for those who know what they’re doing. Probably has something to do with the low barrier for entry.

But, but, but … you’re supposed to be conferencing, not sight seeing!
I agree about the website. I loathe flash popups, but it’s the local company, so what can you do?
What you say is true. But you don’t see all drivers being judged by the behavior of cabs
or Rhode Islanders.June 2nd, 2006 at 10:41 am
You can approach them to redesign their website, at a “local discount”.
No, but you do see all cab drivers and Rhode Islanders judged that way. (I heard a rumor once that there was this one guy in RI who could drive. My guess is he moved.)
Looks like a crap rainy weekend. How’s that Netflix queue looking?
June 2nd, 2006 at 10:46 am
Netflix: slow. I’m on a reading binge.
I have a ride on Sunday and the weather isn’t looking too bad for that. It’s a 50-miler from S. Acton, but I have to ride there and back, so it will be 100 before it’s over.
Netflix queued:
* Curse of the Were-Rabbit
* Beijing Bicycle
* The Seventh Seal
It’s rain tonight and tomorrow, so maybe I can catch up.

Oooooh, great selection there.
Good luck for Sunday. I’ll be busy trying to keep my legs from falling asleep on a plane.
