Ach!
The phone is out again. Same condition as last time. DSL is intermittent, but seems to be holding tenuously.
I am really tired of this.

I just tried to call you, and apparently it’s going straight to voicemail.

Yeah, the tip and ring are shorted somewhere and it’s the same as if the phone is off the hook, so it goes straight to voicemail. I mean, I can live without the phone, really, but I can’t live without the DSL. If that goes, I may have to go work in my client’s office! OH NOES!
The phenom of messing with the DSL is new in the last month or so. Then again, most of the trouble has always been outside the house and this time it’s inside. I can plug the phone in at the NID and it works.
Hmmm… maybe I could plug the cordless into the NID in the cellar and still have phone service. I wonder if my cordless would reach that far. Woudln’t do anythng for DSL though.

Go to the client’s office?! What, you’re telling me there’s not a single unprotected wireless router somewhere in your neighborhood you couldn’t leech off of in a pinch?

Heh, no doubt there is, but some things I need to get at in their network are restricted by IP address (which is why I need a fixed IP). I have a friend who also works for them, so I could probably go to his house in a pinch since his IPs are allowed in. I think he has a 802.11g network, though, so I’d have to get a different wireless card.
