Chiro report
I saw the chiropractor yesterday. I don’t feel any better. I can tell I’ll probably feel better eventually, but eventually is not Saturday. What he did say is I have an extraordinarily high threshhold of pain. I guess I’m really a cyclist after all.
I’ve got something called “fibrosis” as a result of the accident and it’s been building up for 22 years. That has frozen some bones and is most likely causing the nerve pinching. All of the muscles around there are in one massive knot (but I knew that already). It’s going to take some time to break that all down. In the mean time, he kneeded my shoulder and loosened things up and did an spinal “adjustment” which felt pretty good, actually, although he said people usually experience “discomfort” and it was okay to put voice to the experience but “please don’t hate me”.
I have to go back again on Friday morning. I leave Friday evening for the hotel and the bike ride starts at 8:30 am on Saturday morning. Right now, I’d say my chances are about 50/50 as to whether I can make it. I’m hoping that judicious application of hot pads and pain kilers will get me through it. The last thing I want to do is get a few miles down the road and have to give it up and spend the next seven days slicing oranges for everyone else.
Let’s keep a good thought.
