Mass Primary

I suppose since everyone else is doing a primary wrap-up, so will I.

This is the first time I can remember where I actually voted for someone who won. I could have lived with Gabrielli, but Reilly needs to crawl back under a rock somewhere.

I’m not one of those people who thinks you should vote just to vote. So if I’m not informed about a candidate, I don’t vote for that office. Consequently, I didn’t cast any vote for Lt. Gov. The only thing I knew about any of them is that Murray is or was the mayor of Worcester. Never heard of the others.

With rare exception, I also don’t vote for unopposed candidates. The exceptions this time were that I did vote for Teddy and Byron. All the other unopposed were left blank.

The most contentious race this year was for the State Senate. Our senator, a disbarred convicted felon, tax cheat, election ethics law violator, and race baiter couldn’t even be bothered enough to get the 300 signatures necessary to get herself on the ballot. That brought out opponents, one of them a very good one, Sonya Chang-Diaz. Adding to the confusion was another woman named Samiyah Diaz who got her name on the Republican ballot, but when Wilkerson didn’t get her name on the Demcratic ballot, she also ran a sticker campaign to get her name on both ballots. Then, at the 11th hour, some guy named Kelliher decided to start a sticker campaign as well. And now we have our own Florida, as Chang-Diaz says. It appeared that Wilkerson won by 141 votes, but then it came to light that eight precincts didn’t count 2500 ballots.

So we’re still waiting to find out who won. I’ve been told those 8 precincts are all in Wilkerson supporting areas, so she will probably win, which is a terrible. shame.

But I’m glad Patrick won. Last night I got my first call from a very bored sounding woman urging me to vote for Kerry Healey. That didn’t take long.

I knew Gabrielli was f-ed when his automated phone machine kept calling my house asking for his support. I had to call his headquarters to get them to knock it off. It’s called karma.

I’m glad about Patrick too. Now, all we have to do is keep “presidental aspirations” and Romney well separated.

Lately, something makes me just want to vote against all incumbents. No matter who they are.

Re: incumbents. That’s my view. Unfortunately, the only way to vote against an incumbent that’s running unopposed, as most of them do, is to leave the ballot blank. That’s what I’ve been doing.

I voted for Kennedy because he’s been pretty effective at being a thorn in Bush’s side.
I voted for Byron because he’s helped us on a few local problems (Groundwater, Columbus Center)
All the other unopposed spots were left blank.
