Conspiracy
Kenneth Branaugh & al reenact the Wannsee conference where the “Final Solution to the Jewish Problem” was developed. Scripted in large part from the single surviving copy of the meeting minutes, the actors remained in believable character during the extemporaneous non-meeting times (arriving, eating, &c).
If you can put aside, for a moment, the material being discussed, this could be any departmental meeting in any corporation in the world. The ruthless controller, the sycophants, the bullies, the malcontents, the whiners, they’re all here. But of course, you can’t set aside what’s being discussed, and it’s truely horrific when you consider these are actual minutes of a meeting that was actually held.
The film really only suffers by because if its inherent format. It’s a film of a meeting and the interest level naturally tends to wane over time. Branaugh is great as Heydrich, but tends to be a little too Shakesperean in his speech, and Stephen Tucci as Eichman seems a little too servile. Barnaby Kay as Rudolf Lange was outstanding. Actually, the whole cast was great.
; would not watch again
