Hub cyclists feeling like fifth wheels
You know, this is just laughable.
City officials say cyclists aren’t looking hard enough. The city has installed 350 bike racks across Boston, including in every neighborhood business district, the officials said. On one side of Boylston Street between Arlington and Berkeley streets, there are four metal loops provided for bike parking.
I should go take a picture of those loops so you can see them. Two of them are nearly pulled out of the ground and are at such an angle that makes locking anything to them nearly impossible. And between Arlington and Berkeley?!?!?! That’s nearly a mile from the Newbury St area they’re talking about. There is one rack on Newbury, put there by BAC, not the city, and it’s always full. There are no city parking spots in the South End that I am aware of. There are few for use by BMC staff, but none near the entrance to the hospital (I tried to park there to go to a reception type thing and had to find a No Parking sign in the parking lot). There are no racks by any T staion in the Back Bay or South End. The Back Bay Orange Line has bikes tied to the railing that protects the window. There are none in the back near the busses, either.
No, this is the “Can’t Do” mayor. There’s always a reason why Menino can’t do something, and it’s always someone else’s fault. Maybe we could get Joe Curatone to move to Boston.
