21 Up

[netflix] [IMDb]

The third installment of Michael Apted’s “Up” series which interviewed 14 seven-year-olds in 1964 and re-interviewed them every seven years thereafter.

They’re more or less adults now; many in school, some married, some on career paths. Some have had dissapointments (the jockey thing didn’t work out), some have had successes. About what you’d expect. This edition is far less compelling that the others. The real problem is that Apted sucks as an interviewer. Maybe he’s a good filmmaker, maybe not, but he should really have found someone who knows what he’s doing to do the interviews.

Still, it’s vicariously interesting to see how their lives are turning out. Whether it shows anything about the British class system, I have my doubts. Or rather, I guess it shows exactly what oneĀ  might expect.
