28 Up

[netflix] [IMDb]

The fourth installment of Michael Apted’s “Up” series which interviewed 14 seven-year-olds in 1964 and re-interviewed them every seven years thereafter. It’s 1985 and they’re now 28 years old.

They’re all real people now, well set on life’s course. Two have declined to participate in the film. Things have turned out nearly as expected for most of them. But Neil is having a very rough go, suffering from severe depression and is now homeless on the west coast of Scotland. The three East End girls are happy and healthy. Suzi, the rich girl who was such a mess in 21 Up, is married and happy. It’s clear that the marriages of two others aren’t going to last without some major work.

The only thing the film seems to prove is that money and happiness are not related. Apted’s interviewing skills still suck.
