Winged Migration / Le Peuple migrateur
Absolutely stunning photography. A crew of seeming thousands follows migrating bird as they, well, migrate. Travelling to all seven continents, the photographers fly with the birds (in ultralights and paragliders as we learn in the “making of” featurette) to get a bird’s eye view of the activities. (They spent a bit too much time with Canda Geese, though, nasty dirty creatures that they are.)
The “Making Of” featurette is also a must see. They actually raised the birds used in the film so that they would be unafraid of engines and humans. Fascinating. I don’t know who they found to narrate the English version (it’s a French flim) of the “Making of” but he’s not American even though he has no accent whatever. But you’d think that with that many people on the film, someone would have known how to pronounce Adirondack. (Hint: it’s not uh-DIE-run-dak.)
