And Then Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

[amazon] [MBLN]

A group of 10 people are invited to an isolated island by a stranger unknown to any of them. Each has killed someone in his or her past and has gotten away with it. The stranger has decided to commit justice on their asses. One by one, they are killed in ways that mimic a poem about Ten Little Indians that is posted around the empty house.

This is supposed to be one of Agatha Christie’s best, but I was not all that impressed. I’d sort of figured out who dun it by the time the fourth person had been killed, even if I wasn’t exactly sure how. I found the denouement a little contrived. It’s presented in an epilogue as a letter that explains everything found cast into the ocean by the perpetrator. No excitement, really, it’s just a sort of “oh, this is what happened.”

Hmm. Okay.

Still, it’s a good, easy read.
