It’s been a tough couple of days

Did part of the King’s Tour of the Quabbin on Saturday. Another terrible weather day, although not as bad as last year. Still, heavy rain and cold, so I cut it short and only did 100k, plus one missed turn, for a total of exactly 65 miles. Met a guy named Dave from BRC. We leapfrogged all the way down the highway from Boston. I like doing that ride since it’s one of the only ones around with significant hills that I can use to prepare for the NEC, but they really need to order some better weather.

But that means the Outriders 130-miler to P-town in Saturday and I haven’t done a single century yet this year. At least that one’s fairly flat. Then again, the Tour de Cure is only a month away. Yipes!

Got home and found my wallet was so wet that my ATM card won’t work.

My dog is sick, and I’ve spent the last two nights having to take him for a walk every two hours. 12, 2, 4, 6. I had a function I had to go to last night and was out of the house from about 6 to 10, and he had an accident on the bare kitchen floor. The floor is something called “gypcrete”, a very soft gypsum and concrete mix used for leveling uneven floors (and I think it has some fire retardant properties). It’s also porous. I think you see where I’m going with this. At least it will be covered with tile someday soon.

My server (yes, John, the Shuttle) died, so I had to make an emergency run to Microcenter to get another machine. Luckily, they had a pretty nice deal that still ran XP rather than that Vista crap. Still, it was another day down.

The electrician didn’t show yesterday, but he was here today and got a good bunch done. The kitchen and most of the bathroom is all wired. Now the breaker box has to be replaced, and a new main run from the cellar to the box. Assuming he can do it in one day, that should happen tomorrow.

I need a nap.

The Shuttle died? What the hell?

Was your site down this morning as a result of the new breaker box?

I’m not sure what’s wrong with the box. It’s either a bad drive, bad disk controller, or bad SATA cables. My money is on cables, but I can no longer trust the box. When I put the extra memory in, I got disk errors in the application event log. I reseated the cable and didn’t get errors since. This time, though, it killed the box and the files it corrupted prevented the box from booting.

Yes, finial.us has been down for a couple of days. First because of fitting out the new machine, now it’s down because I’m without power. The modem and router are plugged into the UPS, so with the laptop, I’m still connected, but I turned the server off since it hogs so much juice the UPS would be dry in about an hour.

Holy smokes. I think your dog is stressed too. What a bummer. It was nice to see you at the function even if you went home to poo and a sick pooch.
