Hella week
Holy crap has this been a week.
I honestly thought I was going to have a panic attack yesterday.
My server died Sunday night which meant I had to spend Monday getting and setting up a new machine and all that goes with that.
Demolition started last Thursday. It was done in five hours, but my dog was so upset I had to take him to a friends house to get him out of it. Now I have no kitchen or bathroom.
The electrician was supposed to come on Monday. He said he did but that I wasn’t here. I don’t think he come. He did come Tuesday. And Wednesday. And Thursday. Each time, the power was out for a while, so I couldn’t get any work done.
Bugs are piling up. People are getting testy.
Big bug showed up Wednesday (where “big” involves client revenue tracking). Server still out. Power out. Fixed Thursday at midnight.
Wednesday, I found out I was responsible for getting the vanity. “Can it be here tomorrow” says builder. Gah! “Oh, and can all the fixtures for sinks and shower be here too?” Gah! Gah!
Thursday spent a good chunk of the day hunting for that stuff. Got a vanity. Vanity top won’t be here until Monday. Possibly Tuesday.
Thursday was also the day things were supposed to be delivered. Toilet, tub, tiles. How to wait for deliveries and shop at the same time? Call $consultant_friend who works at home Thursdays. “Can you work from here and wait for deliveries?” Yes, he says! Yay!
Get zipcar truck. Go buy vanity. Order vanity top. Arrange for delivery of tub & toilet for Friday. Get serial numbers for appliances for pittance of a rebate. Run to Home Depot (South Bay). Don’t find what I need. Return to store to pick up vanity. Bring it home.
DSL is out. Friend can’t work. Gah! Power cycle modem and router. Seems to have worked for his laptop, but my desktop is still confused. Shut it off. Will start it back up later. Server seems able to find the net.
Go to Home Depot (Somerville) to Home Depot (Everett) to Lowes (Saugus), not finding what I need. Give up. Change plans. Pick up something I can live with at Lowes. Extend car rental three times. Return home.
Expecting delivery of temporary sink. Probably shouldn’t have gotten it, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. $125 per month. Wrote a check for $125, gave it to $friend to give to sink delivery guy. Delivery guy says “It’s $125/mo but it’s a 3 month minimum, where’s my other $250?”
Walk $friend home.
Call builder guy to straighten out sink issue. He says he’ll check. Call back, he says yes there’s 3 mo minimum, but that’s not what salesman sold him, so I have it as agreed. Whew. Talked about shower issues, may be be an alternative.
Go to gym to shower.
Work until midnight trying to fix pressing bugs.
Collapse in bed. Can’t sleep.
Friday get up. Walk dog. He’s feeling better.
Tub & toilet get delivered.
Call tile guy to find out when his delivery will happen and how much it will cost. He says bathroom floor tile isn’t even in yet. Agh! It was supposed to be in on Thursday and delivered Friday.
Call builder guy. Says he can work with it as long as it’s no later than first thing Wednesday. Call tile guy back, say it must be here first thing Tuesday. He says okay. It will be $125 delivery! Yipes!
Work, work, work. Address 13 “bugs”, most of which are arguing that the thing to be entirely redesigned. Others trying to explain that Bcc means “blind” and not just not displayed. Four are the same bug. Bug turns out to be in underlying third party dll. File bug report with $company. Waiting for answer. This is the second bug with this thing that’s causing much grief. Other dll bug requires co-worker to fix. He’s not having much luck so far.
Tile guy called back, said all tile is now in and they can deliver today. I said I’d be here until 5. Tile comes at 4:59. It’s nowhere near the volume of stuff I feared. Two hours and a largish zipcar would have easily handled it for $25 rather than $125, but no time to do it. At least one box of tile is missing.
Realize that this renovation thing is about all I can think or talk about.
Feeling tremendously pressured at work, mostly due to down time from server, power outages, and fiercely stubborn bugs.
Welcome dinner tonight at 6 for tomorrow’s bike ride. Taking dog to $friend’s house for the weekend. Off on a bike tomorrow morning at 6:00 am, headed for the cape.
Never have I needed a day on the bike more than I do Right. This. Minute.
And now I’m starting to calm down a bit, so I will, in fact, spend all three days in P-town and take the ferry back Monday. They might even have some work done by then.

Wow. But um… just think how nice it’ll all look when it’s done. (!)
Enjoy your weekend!
