Renovations, June 23
The plasterer came at 7:00 this morning. Yes, on a Saturday. Zoom, zoom, zoom. That means the rooms will be ready to paint by Wednesday or so. Monday, Tuesday looks like they might be tiling days. Don’t know about that yet. If it is, it’s time for me to move out of here until the tiling is done. They have to remove the toilet for that. I’ve gotten used to this home camping thing, but living in the middle of the urban jungle without a toilet isn’t something I’m willing to do. So I’ll be staying at a pal’s house for a few days starting Monday.
Friday I got the vanity top. It’s still in a box. I hope it’s right. The label on the box reads correct. While I had the car, I ran to Watertown to get the rest of the tile that wasn’t delivered, and chat a bit about how the countertop business works. I have to put 50% down, then I pick out the stone, then with one day’s notice, they can come and make the template, then 7 to 10 days later, they can install. If everything goes like clockwork, that will work out okay. The template can be made a day or two before I leave for my pledge ride, and it will be ready to install as soon as I get back. Don’t know where to schedule appliance delivery amidst all of that, though. The only thing that needs to be “installed” is the dishwasher, although the microwave range has to be placed, too. I should be able to pick that up separately if necessary, since it’s not too big.
The place is a real mess after the plasterer. But compare the floor after the plaster’s finished
with the floor after the thinset is poured. Yeesh. I had to put some mats down in the bathroom to keep from tracking it all over the house.
This is getting very hard on the floors and I’m wondering if I’m going to have to have those refinished when I’m done. I hope not. The last people that did it did a very poor job and I’d rather not deal with that again.
