Renovations, June 29
Lots happening today and I got zero billable work done. A friend (thanks!) offered to pick me up at the train and take me over to the place to pick out the slab for the countertop, but I had something scheduled at my client’s and couldn’t get an answer out of them about whether it was on or off until it was too late to catch the train. (It was off, btw).
So I took the bike and caught the next train to Walpole. The granite place is only a couple of miles down the road where I picked out the slab. It turns out I didn’t have much choice. There were only two unspoken for slabs in the place and all of them were from the same lot, so they looked nearly identical. It didn’t really matter though, as they were all beautiful. There’s a big white splotch in it that I’m hoping to avoid as much as possible as I much prefer the green. But it still looks really nice.
The cabinets were installed and they look fantastic. And now that they’re in, make the floor look even cooler! Things that need fixed: several fo the doos are uneven, two of them hit and one hits the drawer above it. That will have to be fixed. I’m not a stickler about a lot of things, but stuff that’s supposed to be even but isn’t drives me crazy. Still, they look great. There’s a missing spacer, but they might not have put it in waiting for the installation of the dishwasher first. The d/w is the same size as the cabinet above it (24″), and the spacer is installed there.
I got home from the granite place at about 5:00 and not only was the door not locked, it wasn’t even closed. I am not pleased about that at all. The building door was closed and locked, but my apartment door was ajar. Nothing’s missing, so no harm was done, but that will not happen again.
The new toilet was installed, but there’s a problem. As I was looking around, I saw the box for the toilet tank, and it’s the wrong one! The model I bought is called “Pinoir“, and what they sent, and what was installed is “Wellworth“. I specifically ordered Pinoir because it’s in a very tight area, and this model is only 17″ wide. Since this tub is a bit wider, and there’s a cabinet being installed between the tub and toilet, the tank can be no wider than about 18″. The Wellworth is almost 19. And semi-fortunate mistake with the cabinet may make this okay. The cabinet was supposed to be 15″ wide, but it came as a 12″ cabinet. That may make enough room. However, it’s not the one I ordered.
I went down to Harrison Supply, where I bought it, on Saturday and explained the issue. The wrong one was delivered and now it’s been installed, but it’s too big for the area. I have to bring the box to them on Tuesday, as he doesn’t work on Saturday and he’ll make it right. He’d better keep his word. I’m unclear about whether the bowl is the right model or not, that box was thrown away. So I don’t know whether the whole thing will have to be reinstalled or not. He’s checking to see if the two bowls are cross-compatible with the two tanks.
Still, there’s time to fix this, provided Harrison abides by their word. They’d better. I’ve already dropped about 5G’s in there on appliances. The plumber needs to come back anyway to put the fixtures in the tub, hook up the vanity, and connect up all the stuff in the kitchen. None of that can happen until the painting is finished and the countertop is installed, so that gives me some time. I’m hoping the new toilet can be here by Friday, which will give me time. But since it can’t be ordered until Tuesday afternoon, and the 4th is in the way, it might not make it. All assuming their word is good.
