Renovations July 3
Mostly deliveries today. The appliances came around 10 am, but they didn’t bring the fridge. The delivery guys said it was “back ordered”. Actually, it’s been sitting in their storage warehouse for about a month. So I called and it turns out they’d either ordered the wrong one or gave mine to someone else. I need one with a left-handed hinge, and the one they had was right-handed. The doors on this model are not swappable. So they delivered the range, dishwasher and microwave range hood and left. They said they’d be back later in the day with the fridge, and they were! That ruined any chance I had for making a meeting I was supposed to go to. (drat!)
The countertop guy was way, way late. He was supposed to be here between 9 and 10 but didn’ come until almost 3. It was interesting how they do that. They have 2-inch wide strips of a thin plywood they use to mark the edges of the countertop. They cut it and hot glue the pieces together. He seemed very careful, measuring and re-measuring. The layout will be slightly different that before. I think it will be okay. At least I hope so.
Had a bit of trouble fitting the fridge in. It fits in its place fine, but it doesn’t have the side-to-side clearances it’s supposed to according to the install sheet. There is supposed to be 3/4 inch on either side. There is that much on the right, but the left side has 1/4″ or less. I don’t think there’s anything I can do about that either, it’s nearly flush against the wall.
I spent extra to get a counter-depth fridge since space is so tight, but it turns out that I have to pull it out so far that it’s no longer counter depth. In order to get enough room for the door to open without hitting the wall, I have to pull it out about 1-1/2 inches from the counter. Then again, that leaves about a 3″ gap at the back, so I’m hoping that makes up for the lack of clearance on the side. Looks like a nice fridge, though. The power usage chart says this model is pegged at the left end, at 502 kwh/yr, the lowest in its class.
The range and dishwasher also look spiffy. I wonder how the dishwasher is going to work. The controls are on the top of the door rather than the front, and that will be under the lip of the counter. I suppose to put the buttons then close the door? The microwave is still in the box.
I called Harrison Supply and asked that they have the new toilet tank here by Friday, but Thursday would be better. He said he’d try for Thursday. We’ll see.
Surprise! The ceiling came today, two weeks earlier than expected. The company said it was all made to order and that there was a 4-week lead time and it wouldn’t ship until 7/7. It came today. That’s good news. There’s actually a chance it will be done by the end of next week!
