It’s done!

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Fully, finally, completely done. The builder came yesterday to do the last one or two extra things I asked him to do, and he’s totally out of here.
The renovation is complete.
The only thing left is the final bill and cleaning. Pictures once the cleaning is done.
But I have been using the kitchen for a while. [...]

1998 Tour

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

I bought a bunch of videos of old tours a while ago but have never gotten around to watching them. Over the last couple of days (in between bouts of coding) I watched the 1998 Tour de France.
Wow.
I mean, I’ve always heard of “The Festina Affair” but didn’t realized just how close the Tour came [...]

Raul Matos, the Lower Roxbury resident who was killed Aug. 3 after being struck by a pick-up truck on Tremont Street, was a beloved family man and longtime denizen of the South End, his family and friends said.
A 73-year-old Puerto Rican native, Matos lived in [...]

Zero Hour!

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

[netflix] [IMDb]
I knew that Airplane! was a spoof of airline disaster movies, but somehow it escaped my notice that it was based, almost word for word, on Zero Hour! until I saw a comparison on You Tube (part 1) (part 2). That meant I had to rent it.
As a movie, it’s not so great. But [...]

French Revolutions : Cycling the Tour de France by Tim Moore

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

[MBLN] [amazon]
Quite funny and a good read. Tim Moore decides to ride the 2000 tour route before the race starts. He does a creditable job, but it’s not an easy ride. If I have one criticism of the book, it’s that he tries a bit too hard to be funny, but that’s not necessarily a [...]

Police bicycle training video

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

Despite some of the stilted dialog, this is actually pretty good. The rules are the same in Boston (and Mass, generally) . What are the chances the BPD would do something like this. Wait, don’t answer that.

Renovations, August 7

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

I hoped they would be finished by the time I got back from my bike ride, but they weren’t. They are getting very close, however. They came yesterday to finish hooking up the dishwasher, so now the only things left are to finish installing the crown molding in the kitchen, install the trim pieces around [...]

Sunday ride

Monday, August 6th, 2007

Took a nice ride yesterday. Lots of bikes on the road, but few cars. Maybe all the car people were riding Pan Mass. Ran into the X-Status guy at Concord center and chatted with him a bit, trying to talk him into going on NEC next year.
Took Mass Ave from Arlington Center and went to [...]

Car Crashes Into Bike, Construction Zone
She killed the cyclist.
I’m there every day. In fact, I think I was there about 20 minutes before this happened picking up a couple of light bulbs from CVS.
Still no word on who the victim or the killer is. There are bikes all over there because there’s a bike shop [...]
