French Revolutions : Cycling the Tour de France by Tim Moore

[MBLN] [amazon]

Quite funny and a good read. Tim Moore decides to ride the 2000 tour route before the race starts. He does a creditable job, but it’s not an easy ride. If I have one criticism of the book, it’s that he tries a bit too hard to be funny, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s a sort of Douglas Adams funny, where every single sentence has a punch line. It’s great if you’re in the mood for it.

The French in the book seem pretty stereotypical, but totally believable. Apparently, the entire country does not shut down for the tour, contrary to the prevailing wisdom! At the end of the book, he says he left his mark on the top of one of the Cols. I have the videos from that race, so I’ll be looking for it.

Very much worth reading.
