Appointment with Death by Agatha Christie

[MBLN] [amazon]

Sarah King is traveling through the middle east when she meets up with the Boynton family who are terrorized by the matriarch who is found murdered during a side trip to Petra. Although this is a Poirot book, he doesn’t show up until well past the halfway point. The first half is a examination of the psychology of the extremely dysfunctional Boynton family.

While parts of the story are quite good, I don’t feel this is one of Christie’s best efforts. The examination of the family is quite interesting, the result of which is that every person there had plenty of motivation to kill the old bat. So Poirot must determine, not motive, but opportunity.

Overall quite good, but not one of the best.
