I was surprised to see the rate on HMO Blue Value Plus plan go up $142 per month per person for 2008 under my so called “small group plan”. Evidently the new universal health law has caused BC to combine small groups and individual plans. It took a lot of digging on their web site to figure this out. My account exec didn’t know this until I said “is there some mistake, the group plan and individual plan are the same price”.

Guess what my plan is? Yes, HMO Blue Value Plus. My renewal date is April 1. I can only hope this is a mistake.

No, it’s no mistake. Running the little script thing on their site comes up with:

My current premium is $428.87. Then again, the above “Rates are only valid through December 31 , 2007″ so it could well be more by April.

That’s a 51% increase for those not so good in maths.
