Hero / Ying xiong
The King of Qin (Daoming Chen) has the goal to unite the seven warring regions of China under his rule. He has three main enemies: Broken Sword (Tony Leung Chiu Wai), Flying Snow (Maggie Cheung), and Sky (Donnie Yen). Nameless (Jet Li), a low-level sheriff of a remote region, defeats them all. He is called before the King for this feat and given great rewards. While there, he tells the tale of his victories. But the King is wise and challenges his version with one of his own.
This is a visually stunning movie and is reminiscent of Rashomon in the way the various versions of the same events are told. Each one is a different color (yellow, red, white, blue). I don’t pick up on symbolic clues very well, so I’m not quite sure why this is, but it’s very pretty! And the wire work is great.
Very much worth seeing.
