Black Sheep

[netflix] [IMDb] [http://www.blacksheep-themovie.com]

Ovine genetic engineering experiments on a remote sheep ranch in rural New Zealand go horribly wrong when two earthy crunchy animal rights activists, Grant (Oliver Driver) and Experience (Danielle Mason), liberate the dregs of one of the experiments. At the same time, Henry (Nathan Meister) suppresses his “ovinophobia” (the result of a particularly cruel childhood prank) and returns to the family ranch after many years to receive a buyout from his brother Angus (Peter Feeney), the one behind the experiments (it’s a way to increase profits).

The experiment gone wrong turns out to be a sort of voracious, carnivorous sheep. A zombie sheep, if you will. First victim: Grant who soon turns into one of the carnivorous zombie sheep. Next victim: everybody else.

This was laugh out loud funny. I lol’d. There were one or two very small parts that didn’t particularly work, but on the whole, very well done. The New Zealand scenery is very pretty as well. The best line in the movie belonged to Experience: “I thought you of all people would appreciate efforts to deconstruct the colonialist paternalistic agrarian hierarchy that disenfranchises the Tangata Whenua and erodes the natural resources of Aotearoa.”

And she meant it!
