Trekkies 2

A really rather pointless film that adds nothing to the first one. The premise is to explore fandom outside the US and to revisit some of the people profiled in the first film. It’s a great gig for the producers, I mean they got to visit England, France, Italy, Germany, Serbia, Austrailia, and so on. For some strange reason, they did not visit Japan. Maybe that’s left for Trekkies 3.

There were several interesting interviews with cast members and what they thought of the fan base. I don’t follow the show enough to know who most of them were, but one guy who, I think, was on “Enterprise” found that a woman had his face tattooed on her back was pretty much gobsmacked: “That stuff’s hard to remove!”

There were a couple of really good quotes, though. One guy explaining that one of the draws of Star Trek is its moral value of universal acceptance, yet “our club is more accepting that that other club over there because their uniforms aren’t quite right, so they aren’t as good as we are. We’re more accepting than they are,” which was quite insightful.

But some of the best quotes were over the closing credits. Asked “where do you see Star Trek in 50 to 100 years” one girl dressed in blue skin with antennae, said “More blue, less bumps!”
