To ride or not to ride

So I get up this morning, right? It’s pouring down rain, right? Tuesdays are the days I’m at my client’s office, so I’m trying to decide whether to ride or walk (it’s about a mile away, maybe not even that far). I’ve ridden in the rain before, but I really don’t like spending the day with wet feet. Everything else will dry out, but shoes don’t. I found a “sounds of nature” station on Shoutcast, so I was listening to that all night and slept pretty well  and was up an hour earlier than normal.

Anyway, I decided to walk. I’d get here reasonably dry and since I was up early, would be in plenty of time. I made it here ½ hour earlier than normal. The place was empty. I love my messenger bag, but it’s really not made to be worn while walking upright. With my 300 pound laptop in the thing, my shoulder was killing me the time I got here. Normally, the should strap just holds in on your back which does the load bearing.

Then, 15 minutes after I got here, the rain stopped, the sun came out and it’s all nice and pretty. And the manager has decided not to come in.

Maybe I’ll cab it home… nah.

Could you use GoToMyPC (or something more open source) and carry the other, lighter laptop?

Well, normally, it’s not a problem when I’m on my bike. It’s just that today I walked.

The little eeepc is linux, and it’s really tiny. I’m not sure how it would work to do remote attach. Dreamweaver has so many toolbars and panels and things, I’d only have a 2×1 area left to type anything in.

OTOH, I could probably use one of the machines that are already here, I suppose.

Heh heh, good point. I’ve never seen an eeepc in person.

I’ve also never tried a Citrix session from Linux. Just installed the new Ubuntu to a laptop here, might just give it a shot.

    A comparison:

The eee pc v. a 10 ton Compaq

    A eee pc v. a toaster

    Wow.

Riding or walking, I’d leave that big’un at home.

You forgot eee pc v. toast. ;)
