Unstructured playtime
Knox and Victor are in town. Or were in town. I guess they leave today. Or something.
So they, with their friend Kevin, dropped in to go see the South End a bit, maybe have a nosh and a drink, so that’s what we did. Earlier, another friend, John, had dropped over. A very rare occurrence, as very very few people visit here: I always meet people elsewhere for some reason. John had stopped by with a camera to, I guess, drag me out of the house. I’d have gone in an instant, but was waiting for the Seattle crew.
They arrived, we chatted, then we decided to go foraging and ended up at the Red Fez and sat outside under the heat lamps. We got the hot mezz plate, the mixed veggie plate and alcohol. It was good and we had a lot of fun Kevin, a poet, had an encounter with a poetry reading lady at the next table and abandoned us for quite some time. New mutual fandom.
We adjourned for desert and ended up at Francesca’s, where we had a emo waiter wearing a Led Zeppelin t-shirt. He couldn’t have been as old as Jimmy Page’s latest hangover. Best quotes of the night:
- Kevin: What was that thing that looked like an oreo cookie sandwich?
- emo waiter: An oreo cookie sandwich
- Kevin: You have some kind of berry cupcake or something, what is that?
- emo waiter: A berry cupcake.
He got the berry cupcake.
Then it was off to Fritz for a nightcap. It was packed. Packed, packed, packed. Some big group, all wearing “Mattyfest 2008″ shirts were there. Apparently, “Matt” has a birthday every year (imagine that!) and a boatload of friends go out on the town. That and a Red Sox double header made sure the place was wall to wall. Knox isn’t happy in crowds, but we were able to distance ourselves enough that he endured!
I was winding down. This was my third night out in a row, and I’m just no built for that any more. Plus, I wanted to get up for the CRW Century (actually, 50 or 100k) and the train for the Wakefield starting point at 8:30.
I had a blast, and it was really lucky that John met up with us. I think he had fun. Everybody did.

I admire your ability to get up that next morning and go for a ride. We went back to the Y, where I slept somewhat more soundly, not being able or caring about that feeling of bugs I had the night before there!
It was nice to see you again and admire your remodel. Next time, we hope you’ll be out for a spin with us on this side of the country.
