I have to admit, I’m disappointed. I had hoped he would be vindicated because, regardless of his actual guilt or innocence —a fact which we will never know for certain— the one crystal clear thing is that this process is corrupt to the core. As a result, [...]

Hybrid vehicles pose silent threat to the blind

Hybrid vehicles pose silent threat to the blind - The Boston Globe
Interesting. I’ve been surprised by hybrids overtaking me when I’m out riding. But some gas engine cars are pretty quiet too. I’m not sure how I feel about mandating increasing the noise.

Another year along

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

My life’s chronometer ticks over one today.
One of my Imaginary Internet Friends from Edinburgh is here visiting his girlfriend who is working in Woods Hole. He took the bus up to Boston yesterday where he, me, and several other IIFs went for dinner and drinks. We went to House of Siam and the Boston [...]

Yehuda Moon

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

I’ve been reading Yehuda Moon almost since it started. It’s very good. Today’s especially so. I had a moment like this on Saturday.

Except mine is from the bottom up

Outriders post mortem

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

The ride was great. The weather was as good as it can be.  There were 194 registered riders, up from the 130 or so last year. Of the 194, 175 or so showed and rode. Nice increase in turnout. The organizer said that he created a Facebook page for the ride and said that was [...]

I’m in P-town

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

I made it. (Quite) A bit more sun than I like for riding but a beautiful day.
Left about 6:15, got here about 4:45. 130 miles exactly. To the penny.
The guest house has wifi (or maybe the town, the SSID is “pilgrim-net”)  Hence this.
Now time for dinner. I’ll probably go get my traditional ostrich burger.

Outriders weekend is here

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Hurray!
130 Miles starting at 6:00 AM tomorrow. It’s supposed to be a beeeyootiful day.

I am so looking forward to this.

Minuteman

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

It was such a nice day yesterday and I haven’t been out on the bike in over a week and the Outriders ride is Saturday, so I took some time and did a short ride of the MInuteman.
Nothing to report really. Today is supposed to be nice as well, but the Celtics parade is today [...]

It’s thundering

Monday, June 16th, 2008

I keep expecting to find a frightened, panting dog cowering under my desk.
But there isn’t one.

Hands up

Monday, June 16th, 2008

all those who have seen their congressman naked.
/me raises hand
well, he isn’t my congressman, but still.
I’m on the elliptical cross-trainer at the gym, when who steps up on the one beside me but Barney Frank.
So that’s two TV presenters, one porn star, and one congressman so far.

Argh!

Monday, June 16th, 2008

I’m replacing my windows. Since I live in an historic district, the plans have to be approved by the historic commission before work can proceed. Setting aside the the myriad of issues I have with that for the moment, I call to let the window company know I got the letter of approval on Saturday.
Me: [...]

Reconnect

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Linkedin must be psychic. I spent some time a few weeks ago just poking around to see if there was anyone I knew and up in the right corner it said “Do you know these people?” One of them was David Rumsey, whom I’ve never met but quite admire. He’s one of the only people [...]

Menino cycles through mishap

Menino cycles through mishap - The Boston Globe
I’m of mixed mind about this. It seems to me that it would have been good to publicize this, not so much to “make an example” of the motorist, but to put front and center that motorists need to be aware of cyclists. Then again, maybe this is [...]

Bright sun + black lycra = hot bum

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Did about fifty miles yesterday. It was hot. It was a nice day, in spite of the heat and I felt good the whole way through. Took the Minuteman to Bedford to Skelton St to Concord and back. Was tired but not overly so when I got home. Still, I was tired enough to be [...]

This Film Is Not Yet Rated

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

[netflix] [IMDb] [IFC]
Kirby Dick’s documentary about how films are rated by the übersecret MPAA films ratings and appeals boards. In doing so, he manages to get an NC-17 rating for this film, although it was later recut to add the appeals board process as a sort of afterword and did not resubmit it for rerating, [...]

Race crash in Mexico

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

I saw the story come across the news wires last night, but I hadn’t seen the picture until John pointed it out this morning. Nasty.
One killed. Ten seriously injured.

This is what drunken driving can do. Can’t get any more vivid than this.
Supposedly, this is a video feed, but video is blocked from where I am [...]

Fair Game : My Life as a Spy, My Betrayal by the White House by Valerie Plame Wilson

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

[amazon]] [MBLN]
I suppose most everyone knows the basics of the story. It also depends on whether you’re red or blue as to which version of events you’re wont to believe. But this is the story in her words. I have to say, it’s pretty compelling.
The redactions make it tough going in places. Parts of [...]

Record numbers of bicyclists on the roads - The Boston Globe
This seems to confirm my anecdotal observations of a couple weeks ago.

Pahty

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

An imaginary Internet friend came up from Brooklyn, this week, so another IIF from Chelmsford came down along with a neighborhood friend and we commandeered another neighborhood friend’s roof deck for a BBQ last night. The roof deck owner was out of town but was nice enough to let us use the deck and the [...]
