Bright sun + black lycra = hot bum

Did about fifty miles yesterday. It was hot. It was a nice day, in spite of the heat and I felt good the whole way through. Took the Minuteman to Bedford to Skelton St to Concord and back. Was tired but not overly so when I got home. Still, I was tired enough to be concerned about Outriders which is in only two weeks. Happy to discover I can still push 30mph on the flats in spite of the shape I’m in.

I bought some of those nuun tablets and I really like them. The have an odd alka-seltzery taste, and they remind me of Fizzies, if anyone remembers those. So far I’ve only had the tri-berry, but the flavor is so subtle, it doesn’t make much difference.

Some sort of trees are flowering. I think they’re cottonwoods. But whatever they are, there are a lot of cottony type things flying around in the air that are hard to keep from inhaling.

I ran into the x-status guy again in Concord center. Last year he was on a Look. This year, he’s got a Merkx. “Didn’t like the Look” he said.

The only irritating thing of thw day was a Russian guy on a Bianchi with full Bianchi kit and his two friends who were paying no attention to anything going on around them. Speeding way up to zoom past people with lss than an inch to spare (he almost took me out at the light in Arlington Ctr), then pulling right in front of you and slowing down, making people swerve to get out of the way. Unfunny, comrade.

Was going to go for a short ride today, but it’s already 95 with air quality warnings. Tomorrow it’s supposed to be 100+. One week ago, it was 65.

One week ago? Just on Thursday it was drizzly and chilly. I for one am enjoying the heat, though I can’t imagine doing anything more strenuous than pulling weeds from around the tomatoes today. I find myself slipping into my North Carolina patters of hiding indoors from about noon until about 4 or 5, moving as little as possible….
