The year in review

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Back dated.
Not a good year, really. Started bad. Ended bad. Didn’t ride much. I’ve lost interest in most of the things I was interested in. Riding doens’t excite me. Reading doesn’t excite me. Movies: meh. Music: meh. I’m trying to remember highlights and nothing’s coming to me.
Riding
Most of the riding was for the New England [...]

The view from my office window:

French Toast Alert Level: Yellow.
And it’s just getting started.

amazon.com TEH FAIL

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Today on dealnews.com, there was a listing for “99 Beethoven Masterpieces” from amazon.com’s MP3 download thing. It was only $2.00 and I figured Ludwig was worth at least that much, even if it’s just pieces parts like this,  so I decided to get it.
So you go there, you buy the thing, and you have to [...]

Relax

Monday, December 29th, 2008

I have it on unimpeachable authority that Harvey Leonard is out of the office until January 8.
You can expect no significant weather until he returns.

Monday darts

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

Last night was the last darts night of the season. I don’t know how it turned out.  Friday I came down with the mother of all colds or something and the drugs were making me dizzy, so I didn’t stay the entire time. I wasn’t scheduled for any single games, so I left after my [...]

Yehuda Moon

Friday, December 19th, 2008

I (and others, obviously) have been reading Yehuda Moon for quite some time now. It’s a four-panel comic about Yehuda Moon who, with Joe, co-owns the Kickstand Cyclery, a shop in Cleveland. He works as a bike mechanic and is a strong commuter advocate. The strip is very good. But the story line over the [...]

Monday darts

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

No, I never updated after Monday. It was a “double header” because we needed to make up a match that was cancelled on account of the ALCS. There were a lot of games, and I’m not sure I remember what I did. I think I played five and lost four. The team lost both matches. [...]

Winter baseball

Monday, December 15th, 2008

I did some christmas shopping this weekend and happened into the Red Sox souvenir store. They were having a 30% of everything sale over the weekend, so I got my cousin’s kids some indoctrination goods. The boy is 2, and the girl is 1½. I got him a sort of warming cap with a logo [...]

Monday darts

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

Seven games. Seven losses. What else is there to say. I played 601, doubles cricket, and singles 301. My eyes were really bothering me too, but I don’t know if that played a part in it or not. It’s a convenient excuse, I guess, but I doubt the outcome would have been any different.

Exams

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

Had my (supposedly) annual eye exam yesterday. I’m still feeling it. It’s a pretty thorough three part exam. First they do the optometry stuff and give me a new prescription. I’ve been given a prescription for tri-focals this time so I can see the computer screen.
Then they squirt in an anesthetic so they can poke [...]

Open sores

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

The Globe publishes yet another list on its way to becomming VH-1. But … explain to me exactly how this is “open source”? It’s a pretty standard Google map mash up. There’s nothing open source about it at all as far as I can see. And, from the attributions, it looks like it was created [...]

Monday darts

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Played two games: doubles cricket (lost) and singles 301 (won). We should have won the doubles cricket but were outpointed at the last minute. The team lost 6 games to 1. The Club Cafe venue is not very nice. The place is lit up as a nighclub (which, of course, it is) but there are [...]

Shopping

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

I didn’t go shopping last Friday (“Black Friday”) but did run an errand near Downtown Crossing. It seemed pretty full and busy. I stopped in to the Eddie Bauer outlet which was hopping.
But Saturday I did go out shopping for a bit, and the stores were empty! Most every one had twice as many clerks [...]

Gay Sex in the 70’s

[netflix] [IMDb] [official site]
A fantastic documentary of the post-Stonewall, pre-AIDS era of New York City (and a bit of Fire Island). It consists mostly of interviews of those who were there and includes a lot of still photos and what looks like home movies. Tours of the baths, parks, the piers, the meat market, and [...]
