So this morning, Verizon came out to work on some neighbor’s phone line (it’s in the punch box in our cellar) and what do they do? Cut my line. Dead.

The new DSL line is in and running. It’s pretty much the same speed as the other, maybe a teeny, tiny bit faster, but well within the normal deviation between different speedcheck runs.

Verizon visit number 7 is scheduled for Monday afternoon. Curiously, this one is blocked out for noon to 5pm, not 8:00 to 5:00 and I was told to expect them at 1:00.

Replacing the router did not improve the connection, it’s still going out. Then I noticed that the “DSL” light on the modem was going out which means the connection to the CO was being dropped. I didn’t notice that before, but judging from the current behavior, it’s probably what’s been [...]
My router (an SMC Barracade WGBR14-N) is going bad. I spend a bit of time with tech support at Speakeasy, my DSL provider, and we determined that it was “most likely” the router. This morning, I was able to confirm that.
I’m miffed.
I paid extra for this thing because it was supposed to be “SOHO quality”. [...]
