Weirdy weird

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Man, have I been having some weird dreams. And what’s even weirder is I’m remembering some of them.
Like last night.
It was something out of a David Lynch movie.
Somehow, I, specifically my arms, became infested with what I understood to be chiggers. Except they were black, and I could watch them burrow into my skin like [...]

Is this any way to run a subway?

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Back in July, I was ripped off by the MBTA to the tune of $1.70. The caught me in an annoyed mood, so I decided to get my money back.
So I went to their website and “wrote to the top”. I dutifully filled out the form and waited. And waited. After a couple of weeks, [...]

A bike ride!

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

The black hand of depression is closing in on me again. Made much worse by spending the day yesterday doing nothing waiting for a storm that never appeared (except to generate enough wind to knock out the satellite dish at the bar next door so I couldn’t even watch the Sox get routed by Texas [...]

Dahts

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

I’m thinking of joining a dart league this fall. It’s been 15 years since I’ve played and I’ve never played with soft tips before. Apparently, Boston or maybe Massachusetts has a weird rule where steel tipped darts are not allowed in a place that sells alcohol. So I went out and got a cheap set [...]

Beisbol

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

I don’t watch much tv, but yesterday I watched the Redsox get trounced by the-team-who-shall-remain-nameless, on Fox (but listening on the radio because, really, are there any two worse sportscasters in the world than What’s-his-name Buck and Tim McCarver?). When it was over, I was flipping around the channels. I have the lowest level of [...]

The Tour

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

The Tour starts today and I find I really don’t care. The scandals of sucked all the interest I might have had away. It’s not just the dopers, it’s the way the whole thing is being handled by everyone. Valverde wins stage 1. Maybe I’ll get excited later, but for now: Meh.
But of more interest [...]

Another year along

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

My life’s chronometer ticks over one today.
One of my Imaginary Internet Friends from Edinburgh is here visiting his girlfriend who is working in Woods Hole. He took the bus up to Boston yesterday where he, me, and several other IIFs went for dinner and drinks. We went to House of Siam and the Boston [...]

It’s thundering

Monday, June 16th, 2008

I keep expecting to find a frightened, panting dog cowering under my desk.
But there isn’t one.

Hands up

Monday, June 16th, 2008

all those who have seen their congressman naked.
/me raises hand
well, he isn’t my congressman, but still.
I’m on the elliptical cross-trainer at the gym, when who steps up on the one beside me but Barney Frank.
So that’s two TV presenters, one porn star, and one congressman so far.

Reconnect

Linkedin must be psychic. I spent some time a few weeks ago just poking around to see if there was anyone I knew and up in the right corner it said “Do you know these people?” One of them was David Rumsey, whom I’ve never met but quite admire. He’s one of the only people [...]

The naked gardener

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

I had some errands to run yesterday (out to REI, among other things) which took me along the Fenway Victory Gardens. On the way back, I spotted the naked gardener.  He wasn’t naked, but he was gardening. We talked peonies. It was a short conversation. He’s taller and skinner than I expected.

Unstructured playtime

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

Knox and Victor are in town. Or were in town. I guess they leave today. Or something.
So they, with their friend Kevin, dropped in to go see the South End a bit, maybe have a nosh and a drink, so that’s what we did. Earlier, another friend, John, had dropped over. A very rare occurrence, [...]

I’m back

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

That was a difficult trip. I hadn’t been back there in 15 years. The town is still dying, I’m pleased to say. There were about 14,000 people when I lived there in high school. There are about 9,000 now.
The funeral ceremony was  a bit too jesusy for me, but then it wasn’t for me, so [...]

Off to Ohio

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

A death in the family is taking me back to Ohio. I think the last time I was there was about 15 or 20 years ago to attend the funeral of my grandmother. I’m leaving tonight and will be back on Monday night. The funeral is Friday.

Parental visit

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

The ”rents were here for the last week or so (leaving Thanksgiving Day). It was fun. We spent most of the time going from meal to meal.
Of course, I didn’t get any work done, but frankly, I don’t care.
It occurs to me, I didn’t take a single picture!

Food store humor

Monday, March 26th, 2007

I bought some olives today.

I’m not having a good day

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

Construction on one side of me is trying to destroy my building.
Construction on the other side of me is trying to destroy my living room.
The bar on the corner kept me up until 2:30 this morning.
My tire exploded in the hallway loud enough that my ears are still ringing.
Lunch sucked.
Client is thinking about redesigning the [...]

Gah!

Guess who sold all his JILL on Monday?

That would have paid for a fixie.
Bastards.
