Result!

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

This was in this week’s Road Bike Rider e-newsletter.  Not being able to read my cyclometer is a problem I have. I’ve been wearing bifocals since I was, like, 3 or something. My prescription is to the point where I have a lot of trouble finding wrap-around frames that will support the prescription. I guess [...]

New gadgets

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

I got a GPS thingy yesterday. A Garmin xTrex Legend. It should be fun.
According the manual, this thing eats batteries. In “power save” mode, it goes through two AAs in 18 hours. “Power save” means the GPS is off. It didn’t come with a handlebar mount, so I’ll have to go get one of those.
There [...]

1998 Tour

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

I bought a bunch of videos of old tours a while ago but have never gotten around to watching them. Over the last couple of days (in between bouts of coding) I watched the 1998 Tour de France.
Wow.
I mean, I’ve always heard of “The Festina Affair” but didn’t realized just how close the Tour came [...]

Renovations, July 12

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

Countertop today. It’s beautiful!

And the toilet tank finally came. They wanted to take the old one, but … it’s still attached. They’ve been stringing me along for almost 2 weeks. They can wait.
But I lerve this countertop.

Awesome idea!

Tires

Sunday, January 14th, 2007

Because of the forcast for sleet and ice, I swapped out for the studded tires. I didn’t realize just how heavy these are. It’s like riding through molasses.  I mean, what it must be like to ride through molasses as I’ve never actually done that. But I have ridden through some pretty muddy and sticky [...]

How to Dress for Cold Weather at Commute by Bike

How to Dress for Cold Weather at Commute by Bike
I think Nick has it about right, although I’d add another level at 20 degrees (especially when the wind kicks up) which would include some real tights, especially the wind breaker type (rather than thermals) and a neoprene face mask in place of the balaclava. But [...]

Bag

Monday, October 16th, 2006

I broke down and bought a courier bag. Carrying the laptop in the bag I currently have (which is more of a canvas briefcase with a long strap) is not working. Everytime I bend over the bars or stand or something, it swings out of place. My laptop is heavy enough so that can throw [...]

Racing

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006

I’m totally not following racing this year. I wonder why that is.
I got a disappointing note from MediaZone.com:

To the best of our knowledge we will not be broadcasting the Giro d’Italia this year.

A brand-spankin’ new Rob Roy will be on its way to me within a couple of weeks. Wait forever to order, now I can’t wait for it to get here.

MARIN COUNTY / Broken quick-release lever puts brakes on trial over alleged bike defect / Jurors examine wheel mechanism — and it reportedly breaks off
Bad news for Wal*mart. Unfortunately, it probably means bad news for everybody.

SS Once More

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

While browsing around, I found the IRO is having a sale!!! Wooo!!! I also found out that a shop I was unaware of around here sells IRO’s, so I went down to check them out. Now, I knew this was a messenger shop, but I didn’t really expect open hostility. I certainly hope I was [...]

Continental Ultra Sport Home Trainer Tire

Tuesday, January 17th, 2006

I saw these somewhere yesterday (sorry, forgot where). I’ve been looking for something like these too.
Continental Ultra Sport Home Trainer Tire
I’ve been using ultra cheap tires on the trainer, but they’re so cheap they melt and leave a mess. But since these can’t be used outside at all, it really means having two back [...]

Bar Hopper Drink Holder

Something long, long overdue. Nice, simple, to the point without a lot of overengineering and pointless flash. Now I just have to find where they sell them.

My wheels have arrived

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2006

Yes, they have. My rebuilt replacements/extra pair of Neuvation M28s Aeros are here. Except it turns out that the rear wheel is not a M28Aero, it’s an R350, which, apparently, is an R28 with better bearings. Plus, they came with already installed rim strips and a set set of skewers. Yay! I think these [...]
