Derry

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

I got invited to a barbecue by one of the NEC people up in Derry, Nuh Hampshah yesterday. I pondered for a bit and decided to take the SS. It’s about 10 miles from the Haverhill commuter rail stop. There was “switching trouble” just before Lawrence, so the train got in about ½ hour late. [...]

Tuesday ride

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

A guy at my client’s office won a bike “through the power of positive thinking”. Or so he tells it.
He brought the bike into work yesterday (I work at client’s office on Tuesdays) and we took a lunchtime ride. It’s the first time I’ve been out since getting back from the NEC. I felt it. [...]

Back to work

Monday, July 21st, 2008

I guess. But today’s horoscope says:
Your work activities get in the way of your real purpose today. It’s not that you are a bad employee; it’s just that right now your mind is not on pleasing your boss. You are ready for a real vacation or, at least, for a quick getaway to take your [...]

I’m home

Friday, July 18th, 2008

I’m pooped.
More later.

We’re at Franklin Pierce

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

Haven’t been able to find a terminal to update anything until now. And now it’s time for dinner, so must dash.
Made it, had some trouble, but nothing major.
More later.
The NEC site has been updated.

Outriders post mortem

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

The ride was great. The weather was as good as it can be.  There were 194 registered riders, up from the 130 or so last year. Of the 194, 175 or so showed and rode. Nice increase in turnout. The organizer said that he created a Facebook page for the ride and said that was [...]

I’m in P-town

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

I made it. (Quite) A bit more sun than I like for riding but a beautiful day.
Left about 6:15, got here about 4:45. 130 miles exactly. To the penny.
The guest house has wifi (or maybe the town, the SSID is “pilgrim-net”)  Hence this.
Now time for dinner. I’ll probably go get my traditional ostrich burger.

Outriders weekend is here

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Hurray!
130 Miles starting at 6:00 AM tomorrow. It’s supposed to be a beeeyootiful day.

I am so looking forward to this.

Minuteman

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

It was such a nice day yesterday and I haven’t been out on the bike in over a week and the Outriders ride is Saturday, so I took some time and did a short ride of the MInuteman.
Nothing to report really. Today is supposed to be nice as well, but the Celtics parade is today [...]

Bright sun + black lycra = hot bum

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Did about fifty miles yesterday. It was hot. It was a nice day, in spite of the heat and I felt good the whole way through. Took the Minuteman to Bedford to Skelton St to Concord and back. Was tired but not overly so when I got home. Still, I was tired enough to be [...]

Northwest 70

Monday, May 26th, 2008

Did about 70 miles yesterday. Went northwest to Westford-Littleton and back through the Actons and Concord. I stopped at Kimball’s but did not buy ice cream!
I’m still amazed at how few cars there are on the road. The jerks all seem to be in SUVs, but only ran into three of those. The roads really [...]

Southwest

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Yesterday, I’d planned on riding CRW’s spring century, but I overslept. I’m glad I did. I needed it.
I’d missed the train to Wakefield, so decided just to do a ride of my own, so I decided on southwest (Dover, Sherborn, Medfield). It was a very nice day, and there were a few other riders out [...]

Bike week

Menino pedals for cycle-friendly city - The Boston Globe
Considering his past records, it’s hard to believe Menino has his heart in this, but you take what you can get and this can’t be a bad thing. While biking in to work today (Tuesday is on-site at the client day) I saw more bikes on the [...]

I’m knackered

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Got out for about 50 miles yesterday. It was way, way colder than I thought. I took my jacket but not knee warmers, and it was mighty chilly on the return. Maybe that’s why I’m so stiff today. But for only 50 miles, I shouldn’t be this tired.
Still, it was a pretty day, the sun [...]

Whoa, time is whizzing by

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

I normally do the Portsmouth TdC ride. Because it starts so early, I usually get a Zipcar for the day, but the daily price of those has gone up so much, I’ve been debating whether to do the Portsmouth ride or not. So I just went over to the NEC website– a site which I [...]

Registered

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Signed up for Outriders again this year. It’s June 21this year. It’s 130 Miles (200km) from Boston to Provincetown in one day. I hope it’s good weather. Got the same room reserved at Captain’s House and will be staying at least one extra day. Even though this is a long ride, you start at 6:00 [...]

Boston Marathon

Monday, April 21st, 2008

So today Tim (from NEC) and I did the Marathon route. We started around 6:45 from the finish line and rode to the start, turned around, and rode back to the finish. At least that was the plan.
The early start of the marathon this year really messed me up. Normally, I can get out to [...]

On the road again, again

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Decided to take the afternoon off and make it a 3½ day weekend. And as it was a beautiful day, I did the Minuteman trail again. Bright, sunny, calm, loads of people. Started around 2, ended around 5.
Lots of people out prepping for Monday’s holiday. Big flatbeds of port-o-johns being delivered, fife and drum players [...]
